TAANIT ESTHER: Fast of Esther:

Adar 13, the eve of Purim, is a day of fasting. Indeed, it was on this day in the time of Mordechai and Esther, that the Jews of Persia, under the reign of Ahashverosh, assembled and fasted to defend themselves against their enemies who were preparing

to exterminate them. One only fasts during the day, and it is permissible to eat all

at night until dawn, provided you intend to wake up before dawn to eat.

MEGUILAT ESTHER:

All, men and women, have the obligation to listen to the reading of the Megillah twice, once the day before Purim, and the other the morning of the day of Purim

MAHATSIT HASHEKEL:

On the occasion of Purim it is customary to give the Mahatzi Hashekel, half a shekel, in remembrance of the head tax that was levied for the service of the Temple (Now used to support our synagogues). The equivalent value today would be $10. It is recommended to give this sum on the eve of Purim before the reading of the Megillah.

MISHLOAH MANOT: 

We have an obligation to send at least two different edible gifts to a friend. This duty is also incumbent on women towards their friends.

MATANOT LAEVYONIM: Donations to the poor

We have an obligation to donate to the poor, at least to two poor people. The more money or food you distribute, the more praiseworthy you are.

MISHTEI PURIM: Purim Feast

We have a duty to celebrate Purim during the day with a feast washed down with wine, in an joyous atmosphere. The custom is to take the meal during the afternoon and to extend it until the evening.

TAANIT ESTHER : Jeûne d’Esther :

Le 13 Adar, veille de Pourim, est un jour de jeûne . En effet, c’est ce jour là du temps de Mordékhai et Esther, que les juifs de Perse, sous le règne D’Ahashverosh se sont assemblés et ont jeûné pour se défendre contre leurs ennemis qui se préparaient

à les exterminer. On ne jeûne que pendant la journée, et il est permis de manger toute

la nuit jusqu’à l’aube, à condition d’avoir l’intention de se réveiller avant l’aube pour manger.

MEGUILAT ESTHER :

Tous, hommes et femmes, ont l’obligation d’écouter la lecture de la Méguilla 2 fois, une fois la veille de Pourim, et l’autre le matin du jour de Pourim

MAHATSIT HASHEKEL : 

A l’occasion de Pourim on a l’usage de donner le Mahatsit Hashekel, un demi shekel, en souvenir de l’impôt par tête que l’on prélevait pour le service du Temple (ces temps pour supporter nos synagogues). La valeur équivalente aujourd’hui serait   $ 10 . Il est recommandé de donner cette somme la veille de Pourim  avant la lecture de la Méguila.

MISHLOAH MANOT : 

On a l’obligation d’envoyer au moins deux cadeaux comestibles différents à un ami. Ce devoir incombe aussi aux femmes envers leurs amies.

MATANOT LAEVYONIM : Dons aux pauvres

Nous avons l’obligation de faire des dons aux pauvres, au moins à deux pauvres. Plus on distribue de l’argent ou des aliments, plus on est digne de louanges.

MISHTEI POURIM :Festin de Pourim

Nous avons le devoir de célébrer Pourim pendant la journée par un festin arrosé de vin, dans une ambiance de réjouissance. La coutume est de prendre le repas au cours de l’après midi et de le prolonger jusqu’au soir
