Following the latest developments and consequences of the Covid-19 epidemic, we are forced to close the Synagogue until further notice.
All current Services are therefore suspended and will be reintegrated again when we reopen.
Below you will find a statement from the S&P a letter from the President and from the Clergy and from the Jewish Community Council of Montreal (JCC) regarding private minyanim.
We obviously hope that this period will be as short as possible and that everyone will cross it in good health.

Suite aux dernières évolutions et conséquences de l’épidémie de Covid-19, nous nous retrouvons dans l’obligation de fermer la Synagogue jusqu’à nouvel ordre.
Tous les Services en cours sont donc suspendus et seront de nouveau réintégrés lorsque nous réouvrirons.
Vous trouverez ci-dessous une lettre du président et du clergé de la S&P ainsi qu'une déclaration du Conseil de la communauté juive de Montréal (JCC) concernant les minyanim privés.
Nous espérons évidement que cette période sera la plus courte possible et que tout le monde la transversera en bonne santé.

Dear Members and Friends,
Our Congregation, a showcase of Sephardicism and proud of its 252 years of uninterrupted service to the Community, has unfortunately been forced to suspend its religious and cultural activities due to the current pandemic.
It was with profound emotion that Rabbi Maimon Pinto, Cantor Danny Benlolo, as well as members of the Executive and me, made this decision on Friday, March 13, together with the Chevra Shas and Maghen Abraham communities.
Daily prayers, Shabbat prayers and Torah classes have also been suspended to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among our faithful.
Never before has such a decision been made in the history of our synagogue, even during the two World Wars.
The value that the Torah places on human life is paramount.
Oubeharta bahaim, "And you will choose life" Deuteronomy.
The cancellation of the services which responds to the imperative need of the moment, should incite us to pray with additional fervor in our homes to cease this recent pandemic.
In this regard, the Pirkey Avoth, quotes this exemplary passage:
"Wherever you pronounce my name, I will come to you and bless you".
Prayer need not have to be just at the synagogue in times of distress. Personal invocation is also essential.
In this difficult period, it is good to note the gestures of solidarity and fraternity that are multiplying towards our most vulnerable and most deprived brothers and sisters.
Torah courses are multiplying online. Our clergy are currently setting up virtual Minyanim for religious services, and we thank them. The genius of Judaism lies in its unshakable faith.
Like you, we know that the recitation of "Ma Nichtana" this year will take on a very special dimension, in the confinement of our homes. Just as the recitation of the ten plagues will be pondering this eleventh plague which now threatens humanity.
Rabbi Maimon Pinto, Cantor Danny Benlolo, the Executive and the Board of Directors and I remain at your disposal for any support you may need, and we will keep you informed of any new developments.
Françoise Babulot, our office manager and the administrative staff are also at your disposal.
Let us protect our families. Let us keep hoping that with the help of G-D. This plague will spare us. We are convinced of this and we hope that you are too.

Très Chers Membres et Amis,
Notre Congrégation, vitrine du sépharadisme et fière de ses 252 années de service ininterrompu à la Communauté, s'est vue malheureusement contrainte de suspendre ses activités religieuses et culturelles due à la pandémie actuelle.
C'est avec une profonde émotion que le Rabbin Maimon Pinto, le Cantor Danny Benlolo ainsi que les membres de l’Exécutif et moi-même, avions pris cette décision le vendredi 13 mars, à laquelle se sont jointes les communautés Chevra Shas et Maghen Abraham.
Les prières quotidiennes, celles du shabbat ainsi que les cours de Torah ont aussi été suspendus afin d'éviter la propagation du Covid-19 parmi nos fidèles.
Jamais une telle décision de fermeture n'avait été prise au cours de l'histoire de notre synagogue, même au temps des deux grandes guerres mondiales.
La valeur accordée par la Torah à la vie humaine est primordiale.
Oubeharta bahaim, " Et tu choisiras la vie" nous dit le Deutéronome.
L'annulation des offices qui répond au besoin impérieux du moment, doit nous inciter à plus de ferveur et de prières dans nos foyers pour stopper ce fléau.
À ce propos, le Pirkey Avoth, nous cite ce passage exemplaire :
"En tout lieu où tu prononceras mon nom, je viendrais vers toi et te bénirai ". La prière n'a pas lieu d'être seulement à la synagogue en temps de détresse. L'invocation personnelle est aussi essentielle.
En cette période difficile, il est bon de constater les gestes de solidarité et de fraternité qui se multiplient envers nos frères les plus vulnérables et les plus démunis.
Des cours de Torah se multiplient en ligne. Notre clergé met actuellement en place des Minyanim virtuels pour les services religieux, et nous les en remercions. Le génie du Judaïsme réside dans sa foi inébranlable.
Comme vous, nous savons que la récitation de "Ma Nichtana" cette année, revêtira une dimension toute particulière, dans le confinement de nos maisons. Tout comme la récitation des dix plaies le sera avec cette onzième plaie qui menace à présent l'humanité.
Rabbin Maimon Pinto, le Cantor Danny Benlolo, l’Exécutif et le Conseil d’Administration et moi-même, demeurons à votre disposition, pour tout soutien dont vous auriez besoin et nous continuerons à vous informer de tout nouveau développement.

Protégeons nos familles ! Gardons l'espoir qu'avec l'aide de D-eu, ce fléau nous épargnera. Nous en sommes convaincus et nous souhaitons que vous le soyez aussi.
