LA PARACHA EN BREF :
Ytshak épouse Rika. Vingt ans durant, ils restent sans enfants, puis voient leurs prières exaucées. Mais Rivka connaît une grossesse difficile, car « les enfants luttaient en elle ». D.ieu lui dit : « Deux nations sont dans ton sein. L’aîné obéira au plus jeune ».
Esav apparaît le premier suivi par Yaakov tenant, de la main, le talon de son frère. Esav devient « un chasseur rusé, un homme des champs »,Yaakov est « un homme intègre », qui demeure dans les tentes de l’étude. Ytshak préfère Esav, Rivka aime Jacob. Rentrant d’une chasse, fatigué et affamé, Esav vend son droit d’aînesse à Jacob contre un plat de lentilles rouges.
. D.ieu se révèle à Ytshak en disant : « Je te bénirai et Je te multiplierai Esav épouse deux femmes hittites. Ytshak , vieillissant, devient aveugle. Il exprime le désir de bénir Esav avant de mourir. Pendant qu’Esaüv s’en est allé chasser le gibier favori de son père, Rivka fait revêtir à Yaakov des vêtements d’Esav et enveloppe ses mains et son cou de peau de chevreau pour qu’il paraisse velu comme lui. Elle prépare un mets, identique à celui qu’Esav était allé quérir pour recevoir la bénédiction, et le remet à Jacob. Isaac bénit alors Jacob de jouir « de la rosée des cieux et des sucs de la terre » et lui promet la domination sur son frère. Quand Esav, de retour, découvre la supercherie, Ytshak ne peut plus que lui annoncer qu’il vivra par l’épée et qu’il sera tributaire de son frère, mais que, lorsque Yaakov sera défaillant, il perdra sa suprématie sur lui.
Deux frères tout différents
Vingt ans durant, le couple demeura privé d'enfants. Puis, D.ieu leur accorda deux jumeaux, Ésaü et Jacob. Le premier se fit aimer de son père en feignant une grande dévotion envers lui et envers ses croyances. Rébecca, elle, savait que Jacob était supérieur, et de loin, à Ésaü. Aussi était-il son fils favori.
Elle ne se trompait pas, car, à partir de leur quinzième année, les différences de caractère des deux garçons ne firent que s'accentuer. Ésaü devint un chasseur et un trappeur, un homme des bois, tandis que Jacob était de la catégorie des sédentaires studieux. Ils avaient cet âge quand Abraham mourut à cent soixante-quinze ans. Isaac et Ismaël l'enterrèrent dans la Grotte de Makhpélah, celle où reposait déjà Sarah

Quand Ésaü vint réclamer cette bénédiction à son père, celui-ci comprit que la Divine Providence avait voulu qu'il en fût autrement. Il confirma la bénédiction donnée à Jacob et dit à Ésaü : « Aussi sera-t-il béni » (Genèse 27, 33). Plus tard, Isaac envoya Jacob à la maison de Bethuël pour se choisir une épouse parmi les filles de Laban, le frère de Rébecca. (Chabad.org)
